As we reflect on an exhilarating season, our Basketball 1's kicked things off in style with a nail-biting 99-98 victory, highlighted by clutch game-winning free-throws from Trent Monkman late in the game. The momentum continued as we faced UEL, where we ran out 85-73 winners, and Matt Ellis shone brightly, racking up an impressive 27 points on the way to victory.
Our home game against UWE showcased yet again the talent of Matt Ellis, who was well-supported by Joe Biekak, both delivering standout performances winning 87-78. Following that, our match against Surrey solidified our perfect start to the season with a 4-0 record, thanks to Trent Monkman's 20 points and Jarvis Chater's solid contribution of 16 points.
The highlight of our season so far came during our Performance Sport Showcase Event, where we played in front of a lively crowd of 160 on our home court. In a tightly contested match against fellow table-toppers, Essex, we emerged victorious with an 89-86 scoreline having been behind for 39 minutes of the game. This victory, along with subsequent wins against Cardiff and UEL, propelled us to a remarkable 7-0 record, with standout performances from Lanre Ayinla, Bernard Hehetro, and Brandon Craig in the two contests.
A crucial 88-82 win against UWE brought us tantalisingly close to the BUCS Premier Division title, with Trent Monkman delivering a stellar performance, particularly in the 3rd quarter, scoring 24 points and achieving a perfect shooting percentage from three-point range. The season culminated in a decisive home game against Surrey, where we clinched the title and were crowned BUCS Premier Division South winners.
Looking ahead, we are set to face Essex in the new year, aiming to complete the league campaign unbeaten with a perfect 10-0 record before advancing to the playoffs. What an incredible season it has been so far, and we look forward to building on it further as we head into the post-season.
