We are delighted to inform you that due to the excellent progress made in recent weeks with the remedial works to the pool, we will be re-opening the swimming pool at Hertfordshire Sports Village on Tuesday 2 October – nearly two weeks earlier than scheduled.
Progress of Pool Liner Replacement Remedial Works
The pool liner replacement works have progressed well in recent weeks and many of the final tasks have taken less time to complete than anticipated. We are in the final stages and the last tasks this week are to tile the final few areas and undertake a comprehensive deep clean to ensure the pool is back to the very high standards you rightly expect.
Earlier 06:30 Opening Time and Changes to Pool Programme 16:00 - 18:00 Weekdays – No Public Swimming
The pool will re-open for public swimming from 06:30 on Tuesday 2 October (please note the new earlier opening time). We have worked hard over the summer months to amend our staffing rotas so that the pool can now open 15 minutes earlier at 06:30 weekdays (the same time as the gym currently opens), in direct response to requests from swimmers.
At the same time we have taken the decision to add in an earlier opening time we have also decided to remove public swimming between 16:00 and 18:00 weekdays to allow us to expand our swimming lesson programme.
We are aware that this will be a disappointment for a small number of swimmers who swam in public sessions at these times. However, during the pool closure we have undertaken a full review of our pool programme and the income we generate from the activities that take place in the pool. We have taken the decision to increase swim lesson capacity to ensure the long-term financial viability of our facility.
Our costs have gone up significantly over the past 4-5 years whilst the income we have generated from the pool has remained largely unchanged and we cannot allow this trend to continue. There is significant unmet demand for swimming lessons and meeting this demand will ensure that we generate the additional income we need to keep the pool as the best in the region and one of the best in the country.
We hope that opening at the earlier time of 06:30 on weekday mornings allows some swimmers affected by this change to swim in the morning now instead.

Improvements to Female Changing Rooms and Poolside
I am pleased to inform you that whilst the pool has been closed we have also undertaken significant and much needed improvements to the swimming pool female changing rooms. The shower area has been completely refurbished including:
Removal and replacement of all wall tiles.
Replacement of all showers (including pre-swim showers)
Replacement of all shower cubicles.
In addition to the refurbishment of the female pool shower area we have also replaced all tiles around the pool edge and soda blasted the tiles around the changing room side of the pool.
