Return to normal opening hours of the pool at Hertfordshire Sports Village
Further to my email on Tuesday this week I am pleased to report that the emergency order of Chlorine we made has recently been received and our stocks have been replenished. This means we now have sufficient supplies of chlorine and will re-open the pool as normal for all activities from 6:30am on Friday 1 July.
Our next scheduled chlorine delivery is due 12 July and assuming there are no supply issues with this we will be able to continue to open as normal. If we need to make any future changes to our pool timetable and opening hours we will let you know by email and post updates on our social media channels.
FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT ALL GROUP AND 1:1 SWIMMING LESSONS WILL CONTINUE TO GO AHEAD AS SCHEDULED – THERE IS NO NEED TO CONTACT US TO CHECK
Things you can continue to do to help us reduce the amount of chlorine we use:
- pre shower thoroughly before each swim;
- wear a swim hat if possible;
- ensure children always use the toilet before entering the pool.
We are sorry for any disruption to your swimming routine caused as a result of the changes we had to make for 2 days. Thanks as always for your valued custom and understanding – it really is appreciated.
You may have heard in the news that many swimming pools are having to temporarily close due to a national shortage of chlorine caused by Brexit, the war in Ukraine and a substantial fire at an American supply plant. Please see news article HERE for further information.
Our supplies had been unaffected to-date but today we have been informed that our chlorine delivery from our usual supplier, due for this week is now delayed until at least 12 July due to these national supply issues. We have worked hard to secure additional chlorine from an alternative supplier and an emergency order is due to arrive by the end of this week. This is not an easy task as we are limited to the amount we are allowed to store on site within storage bunds and the NHS, farming and cleaning companies are understandably prioritised over public swimming pools
If our chlorine stock runs out completely, we would have to close our pool. So, to safeguard the stock level of chlorine we currently have and ensure we avoid a full closure at all costs we need to take some precautions now, whilst we wait for our emergency delivery to arrive.
Whilst supply issues exist, our aim is to keep the pool open on a reduced basis and continue to provide a service to all customer groups at the Sports Village. This means we will have to reduce our daily opening hours for a short period but are pleased to say we will still be able to offer daily lane swimming, swim lessons and swim club use.
We have reviewed our daily pool usage and have decided to open our pool for lane swimming during our busiest periods, as follows:
Wednesday 29 June
- 06:30 - 09:00: 2 single lanes, 3 double lanes
- 18:30 – 20:30: 2 single lanes
- 20:30-22:00: 2 single lanes, 3 double lanes
Thursday 30 June
- 06:30 - 09:00: 2 single lanes, 3 double lanes
- 18:30 – 20:30: 2 single lanes

We are sorry for any disruption to your swimming routine caused as a result of these changes, but we hope you understand the reasons why we are doing this. We will update members again on Thursday with plans and opening times for Friday 1 July onwards, once we know the status of our emergency delivery we have been promised.
